2021 was often difficult for me, there were quite a few trying periods, but also many successful ones. However, I didn’t make too much music during the year. I mostly worked on revisiting old, unreleased music, both Kauna and Section Zero, complete and incomplete projects. I managed to compile an archive of old Section Zero stuff, for which I’m currently trying to figure out some kind of release plan. Regarding Kauna, I reworked many tracks from the past, somewhat brought them to my “current standards”, which eventually also inspired me to write new ones.
The title of this EP refers to both a physical and a mental space, the apartment I’m currently living in, and my mental comfort zone, my self-contained, inner virtual world. I often find myself struggling to step out of the latter, to make moves in my life, to step forward. I’ve been in this situation for a while now, which is both cozy and unsettling at the same time, and also the inspiration for the darker concept and atmosphere of this release.
The first track, Hide The Bodies is the latest of the four, made in autumn 2021, and it was ultimately the trigger for me to compile the EP. Dark, minimalistic sci-fi vibes with a simple drum track, 40% techno, 60% drum & bass.
Secret Passage was made at the beginning of the pandemic period in Spring 2020. Back then, I used to work from my hometown instead of Budapest, and I regularly took long walks in the outskirts of the town and the countryside, making field recordings and taking photographs. Some of the recorded sounds were used in the track as fundamental building blocks.
Sour Cherry is one of the older tracks mentioned before: I think it was originally made in 2016. In 2021, I reworked it a bit and smoothened the mix, but otherwise it’s mostly what it was years ago. Monotonous halfstep with floating synths, weird tribal percussion, and otherworldly vocal effects.
Isolation is different, it’s a short epilogue similar to the title track on Petrified, but this time with even more bass frequencies, hiphop influences and melodic samples.
